Marcelo Bielsa pleased with the form of Patrick Bamford

Leeds United Marcelo Bielsa has been impressed with the form of striker Patrick Bamford and believes the goals scored during the early phase of the Championship campaign should provide plenty of confidence going forward. The 25-year-old joined the Peacocks from Middlesbrough last season and managed just 10 goals during an injury plagued campaign.

He has begun the current season on a high with four goals from just five appearances and Bielsa feels the run should provide more confidence as the season progresses, he said: “It’s something important for him. Against Stoke he scored one chance of a top scorer. He will win more confidence and calm, that is something he will have more with the passing of the games.
Bamford had a rather forgettable pre-season campaign where he was struggling to find the net. However, that has not necessarily hampered him with the new season underway and so far, he has been successful leading the attack ahead of Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah, who has made a terrific impact off the bench.

Bielsa’s men appeared on course for promotion for most of the previous campaign but a poor run for form towards the end witnessed Sheffield United jump ahead of them for the second automatic promotion place. In the playoffs, they could not proceed beyond the semi-final stage after Derby beat them across two legs and the manager will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the same.

Leeds have made a strong start to the current Championship campaign and they are currently top of the table with 13 points and ahead of Swansea City on goal difference. While the west Yorkshire outfit have always been an attacking threat, they have been more impressive on the defensive front this term and that should provide them with plenty of optimism going forward.
