Leeds United Move to the First Place in the Championship

With the Kalvin Phillips’ equalizer being the first goal of the seasons, Leeds United moved to the top of the Championship. During the second half of the match, there was a pause in the game because one of the teenagers, named Jack Clarke, reported not feeling well and thus paramedics tended him. He was taken to the hospital after being carried on the stretcher receiving O2 but later, it was informed that he was feeling better.

Due to the delay in the match, twelve minutes were added to the game. While Phillips moved past Darren Randolph to take his side during the 101st minute and the point was clear of Norwich, he slips to second.

Leeds moved close to equalizing at the riverside as Pontus Jansson’s header hit the post just before the Phillips’ sudden leveler. On Sunday, Norwich will retake the top position if they don’t lose to the bottom side Ipswich. Boro is in good form despite the loss at League Two Newport. They have been difficult to beat in the six matches and have managed to take four points from fellow contenders, West Bromwich Albion and Leeds, in coming weeks.

Leeds managed to dominate possession for over ninety minutes, but ended up failing to create clear cut chances until mid of the second half. Kemar Roofe was twice denied by Randolph, Boro Goalkeeper, but then Jansson glanced his header against the Boro Striker Patrick Bamford pitched the rebound off target.

Leeds did not have to pay for the missed opportunities as Phillips earned his first of the season goal from the flick of Liam Cooper.

Marcelo Bielsa, the head coach of Leeds told BBC Radio that we believe that he could have the game, they had fifteen minutes in the former half where they were not at leisure but other than that part they dominated the game and deserved to score the goal.
