Becchio the head boy

Luciano Becchio further underlined his increasing value to Leeds United's promotion quest, heading the only goal of the game to ensure the spoils against Cheltenham Town in a lively encounter at Whaddon Road yesterday.

The 'blond bombshell' handed United the lead after just six minutes, converting a cross from skipper Frazer Richardson. Becchio has now scored in five of the last six league games, bringing his tally to seven for the season, having made a swift transition into English football following his summer move from Merida in Spain.

The win moved the Whites back into an automatic promotion spot, just one point behind leaders Scunthorpe United, and halted the recent slide in away form which had resulted in three consecutive away defeats in League One. The Argentinian's partnership with Jermaine Beckford has now yielded 16 league goals with barely a third of the season completed.
